Lei-LDN

Lei-LDN is one of those shows that knows roughly where it wants to take you but sometimes fumbles the map. The direction was mostly coherent, and for much of the performance the vision held together well—but at certain points, it lost its footing. A few scenes drifted in pacing, either lingering too long or rushing through beats that could have breathed a little more.

Lighting design was generally fine, doing its job without stealing focus. But every so often a cue would feel a touch premature—like someone hitting “next slide” just before the speaker had finished the last sentence. These moments weren’t disastrous, but they did slightly pull you out of the world being built.

Sound design, on the other hand, was pitch-perfect—literally. It found that sweet spot in volume where you never have to strain to hear, but also never feel blasted out of your seat. It’s the kind of thing you only notice when it’s done really well, and here, it was.

The book was mostly serviceable, with glimmers of real promise. There’s a strong story at its core, but sometimes it felt like we were skipping over the setup entirely in favour of diving straight into a pressing issue. While those moments had weight, the lack of build-up made them less powerful than they could have been. It’s a bit like jumping straight to the last chapter of a novel—you get the drama, but not the full emotional journey.

In summary, Lei-LDN has a solid foundation and moments of clarity, but the storytelling sometimes loses focus. With more attention to pacing and narrative build-up, it could evolve into something that really lands. As it stands, it’s an interesting watch with technical strengths—especially in sound—but one that occasionally leaves you wishing for a fuller, more complete arc.

If you’re at the Fringe and looking for something with potential and a few compelling moments, it’s worth a look. Just be prepared for a journey that skips a few steps along the way.

Lei-LDN currently plays at The Green in the main Pleasance Courtyard.
