Mario the maker magician

If you’re after a performer with energy levels that could rival a toddler on a sugar rush, look no further than Mario the Maker Magician. This guy practically bounces across the stage, his enthusiasm radiating so strongly it’s downright contagious. Honestly, you leave the show feeling like you’ve had a double shot of espresso—except with a lot more glitter and giggles.

Now, a little heads up: Mario talks fast. Like, really fast. At times, I found myself playing mental catch-up, trying to decipher a word or two that zipped by. It’s like the magic words got caught in a whirlwind! But honestly, that fast pace adds to the frantic, joyful vibe of the show—it’s part of his unique charm. Just be prepared to lean in a bit, or maybe bring your “fast talk” ears.

The set itself is a colorful carnival of oversized props—mostly huge inflatable items and quirky pop-out gadgets that seemed to appear out of nowhere. The giant sign hanging above the stage sets the tone perfectly, signaling that you’re in for a playful, imaginative ride. Visually, it’s a feast, and you never feel shortchanged on the spectacle.

Lighting can sometimes be a headache with magic shows—too dark and you miss the magic, too bright and the illusion disappears—but here the lighting was spot on. It hit the sweet spot every time, illuminating the tricks and Mario’s expressive face without any awkward shadows or blinding beams.

Sound-wise, things were mostly smooth sailing. The only minor hiccup came at the very start when Mario’s mic was cranked up a little too high—he sounded like he was about to address the entire Edinburgh skyline! Thankfully, that was quickly adjusted, and the rest of the show had clear, well-balanced audio that made it easy to follow the spiel.

Speaking of which, Mario’s tricks and storytelling really shine. His style is refreshingly original—part comedian, part magician, all heart. Some tricks are elaborate and take a bit longer to unfold, but they never outstay their welcome. Others come flying at you one after another, like a rapid-fire surprise party of magic. His trademark frantic comedy-magic pace is a masterclass in keeping kids engaged (and adults amused). Plus, I loved how he seamlessly weaved positive, uplifting messages into the performance. It’s a great reminder that magic isn’t just about illusions, but also about sparking joy and kindness.

All in all, Mario the Maker Magician delivers a whirlwind of fun that’s perfect for families and anyone who loves a bit of lively, upbeat magic. It's a vibrant, prop-packed extravaganza bursting with energy, impressive tricks, and a sprinkle of life lessons. It’s the kind of performance that leaves you smiling, laughing, and maybe even believing in a little extra magic in the world.
